Look up popular advertisements in both print and
non-print media. Try to analyse the way men and women are depicted and the
activities being carried out by them in the advertisements( Clue : look at the
products they are promoting, the kind of roles they are playing etc.) Share

ReplyDeleteIt is true that both print and electronic media is guided by stereotypical thoughts as far as gender issue is concerned. Print and electronic media if managed properly can contribute towards gender sensatisation.
ReplyDeleteIt is very true that print and electronic media is not showing gender sensitivity while promoting different products. In most of the cases kitchen items are being promoted by females, while the product of fields and outsides are being promoted by males which indicate their nature of work is not suitable to them. While hardly any product is being g promoted by trans genders. We need to be more sensitive on this issue so that gender equity could be maintained.
ReplyDeleteTransgenders are discriminated in every field starting with education...nishtha has begun a great step towards inculcating a sense of equality amongst the teachers as well as students...the social stereotypes caused due to gender difference must be overcome.

ReplyDeleteIn electrical and press media the advertisement is done on gender based.But now a days this stereotypes thought is changing and in cricket women are seen and in bathing soap men are seen.

Advertisements are for attracting customers, therefore women are used as facilitators for advertisements.It is socially believed that women can attract anyone and can easily change minds by their gestures ,sweet voice and nature.
In this context I see that women accompany men if any advertisement is of such a nature so as to be advertised by a man or male.Majority advertisements women are preffered over men.Of course different products are advertised by men and women.Social understanding of products and their uses is the main cause behind it.Hard manual work , official work etc are male dominated jobs.While household work, taking care of children and sick etc are female dominating area.Generally every job and area of work is differentiated in the eyes of society,for males and females.Transgenders are not given good social status.However this trend is breaking in modern society.
Stereotypical advertisements depict the gender bias in our society, ascribe roles that are gender based. Any advertisement depicting gender discrimination should be removed.
