Course- 7 Activity 6: Share Your Thoughts
Look up the census data of the sex ratio of ypur
district/stateand compare it with the national sex ratio.What
do you think are the reasons for the good or poor performance of your
district/state in terms of sex ratio. Share your thoughts.
I personally feel the dip in sex ratio is due to the lack of social awareness, education and social stigma like dowry system which discourages parents to have girls. Only right education without gender biasness is the answer.
Sex ratio unfavourable to women is a matter of grave concern. It is high time now and only legislation can't improve the situation. There is a strong need for a movement to spread awareness. Members of civil society must take charge of the situation.
Sex ratio as a whole is more of males including the educational field...this may be because a lot of people tend to prefer having male children for the sake of carrying on the family's legacy..or any other personal reasons but we live in society where we have more affection and preference of male children.
As per last census my district has has 993 female for every 1000 male which is better than national sex ratio. This might be due to social and culturalal structure along with literacy rate. But there is always room for better result.
Gap in sex ratio is due to lack of awareness among people. Illiteracy is another important factor in this regard.but there is the hope .nowadays people are treating both male and female equally .
Census reports on national sex ratio as well as sex ratio report of my district is not adequate and this gap in sex ratio has so many responsible factors like lack of awareness,illetracy,gender inequality,dowry system dominance etc.But now a days people are experiencing this problem.gender inclusiveness will result in a positive way.
